The 10950NAT Certificate IV in University Preparation is designed to:

  • Provide learners with the theoretical and practical knowledge to support their transition into and success in the university environment
  • Develop broad factual, technical, and theoretical knowledge in specific discipline areas such as business, humanities, and STEM
  • Develop a range of cognitive, critical thinking, problem-solving, technical and communication skills within the academic environment

International students as well as students who are Australian citizens or hold current Australian Permanent Residency status who meet the entry criteria can enter the 10950NAT Certificate IV in University Preparation.

All scheduled classes will be delivered online. Onshore students currently located in Brisbane will have access to IES College’s learning facilities located at 433 Boundary Street in Spring Hill including computer labs, an art gallery, numerous quiet and social areas, as well as a student lounge area with kitchen and cafe facilities and student services.

The 10950NAT Certificate IV in University Preparation delivered in Standard mode is recommended for students with good academic results and English language proficiency. It is the most popular of the three delivery modes, with the majority of students choosing to study it. Students complete their studies in small class-sizes and have full access to student support services throughout the duration of their studies.

Standard delivery is 36 weeks in duration, with three weeks holidays, and is taught online over four nine week terms. There are two Standard delivery intakes each year in February and August.

The 10950NAT Certificate IV in University Preparation delivered in Express mode is designed for students who have stronger English language proficiency and are capable of handling a faster pace of tuition. It is also suitable for students who have completed a matriculation program in their own country but have not quite met the entry levels for undergraduate study or who need to gain assumed knowledge in certain subjects.

Express delivery is 28 weeks in duration, with one week holiday, and is taught online over four seven-week terms. There are two Express delivery intakes each year in May and October.

To be awarded the 10950NAT Certificate IV in University Preparation qualification learners must complete a minimum of six (6) units: made up of two (2) Core, one (1) Core Elective, and three (3) Electives. The total number of units will depend on the student’s elective selections. Some electives, such as Accounting, are made up of a cluster of units and all units must be successfully completed to achieve the Accounting elective.

Mathematics or Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) are classified as core electives, and learners must select and complete at least one of them to achieve the qualification. Learners who have selected HASS as their core elective may choose Mathematics as one of their other 3 elective selections. This will help them keep their undergraduate course options open. Similarly, learners who have selected Mathematics as their core elective may choose HASS as one of their other 3 elective selections. Students who choose the HASS Stream must check the entry requirements of their undergraduate degree of choice before making a decision as many degrees have a minimum Math requirement.

The remaining three (3) Electives may be chosen by the learner in accordance with their undergraduate study / career aspirations.
