I will cherish the memories made at IES for a lifetime! The time spent here has been full of learning opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom. IES is not only a fantastic platform to help prepare you to study at The University of Queensland, but it's also a place that offers endless networking opportunities. Thanks to IES, I've had the chance to speak at a launch event and network with professionals from various industries in Australia, and was invited to attend the Multicultural Queensland Awards Gala event organised by the Queensland Department of Multicultural Affairs.
IES has taught me skills that are relevant to the 'Bachelor of Regional and Town Planning', which is my undergraduate aim at UQ. As such, IES has been instrumental in helping me reach my career goals to work in the government, and to hopefully become a politician.
My experience at IES has been fantastic. I have gained a lot of knowledge here, as I learnt how to communicate effectively with teachers and students from different countries. This has helped me to expand my horizons and broadened my perspectives about diverse cultures. IES has also helped me to integrate into the native Australian culture, as I was educated about the Australian history, culture and customs.
IES helped me to develop both academic and social skills. I learnt how to network, communicate and collaborate with people from different cultural backgrounds. I also learnt the foundational theories relevant to my undergraduate program at UQ. My education in Brisbane has helped me to secure a coveted position of Project Manager back home in Taiwan.
IES played a fundamental role in helping me to improve my English language and academic skills. I learnt how to deliver oral presentations, engaged in essay and report writing, as well as fine-tuned my critical thinking and research skills. I really enjoyed every aspect of my time at IES, and studying there was one of the main reasons why I was able to succeed at UQ.
IES was a great pathway in preparing me for study at UQ. I felt safe studying at IES knowing that there was a strong support network for under-18 students. IES also made me feel more comfortable about studying at university, as it helped me to adjust to the Australian tertiary education system, which was unfamiliar to me back then.
The environment at IES is welcoming and relaxing, and I find the staff very supportive. Thanks to IES, I had the amazing opportunity to become the 2019 Brisbane International Student Ambassador representing Nigeria. In terms of academics, IES will not only teach you the theories, but will also provide you with a practical, hands-on approach to help you understand how things work. Your hard work will pay off, so be patient, determined and remember to make new friends in the process!
I was part of the Student Council at IES, and we were given opportunities to learn how to work with others as a team when dealing with challenges. This enhanced my leadership, creativity, time management, organisational and interpersonal communication skills, as well as my English language proficiency. I am now the co-founder of a business called Startup Interns, which helps provide employability and entrepreneurship support to international students in Australia. I was also fortunate to be the recipient of the 2019 Outstanding Young Achiever award.
IES has helped me in improving my English language and critical thinking skills. I am now confident and able to express myself in more creative ways. IES also has a great support network for international students, and this includes teachers, student services staff and fellow students. It is like a home away from home!
IES provided me with a high-quality education to prepare for my transition into UQ. IES has also helped me to build my teamwork and leadership skills, as it gave me opportunities to work with people from various cultural backgrounds. I am now working in Brisbane as an IT Associate, and I am thankful to IES for helping me develop essential skills that are useful for my career.
During my time at IES, my English proficiency improved dramatically from an IELTS score of 5.5 to 7, all thanks to the high-quality course program that IES provided. I am now a secondary school teacher at the Centenary Heights State High School in Toowoomba. Looking back, I would not have been able to gain such achievements if it wasn't for the learning experiences at IES.
During my time at IES, I learnt a lot about academic English writing, when I previously had no background and limited knowledge about that initially. We learnt how to do referencing for our assignments, to ensure that we properly credited our sources. We also learnt a lot of skills that are important for life at University. IES is really a perfect pathway to prepare you for your studies at UQ!
IES provided a platform for me to interact in a multicultural environment, which had a significant impact on my interpersonal communication skills. I had opportunities to be involved in the leadership board, and helped in organising several cultural and sporting activities. I am now working as a Restaurant Manager in Brisbane, and I am thankful to IES, as I have gained leadership and management skills that have definitely helped me in my career. To future students, if you had to choose one pathway program to UQ in Australia, it has to be IES! IES is more than just a pathway to university, it is also a pathway to your future career.
